Permanent Way

The biggest cost-saving in permanent way maintenance are obtained by staying permanently in control of the deterioration processes and causes (e.g. dynamic forces, as the primary one) of all track components (e.g. rails, ballast, sleepers, etc.), thus ensuring their longevity.

Track geometry has been by far the most widely monitored and analysed aspect to drive the next maintenance actions such as tamping activities.

In addition to track geometry, short-living anomalies in the geometry of other track components (e.g. especially short-wave rail geometry like corrugation, weld-dips, wheel-burns, joints, etc.) can drastically reduce their service lives and impact on the overall track geometry quality.

RAMSYS has been designed to manage any asset related to the track, from rails to welds as well as to use any available data to plan any activity not only track tamping (e.g. grinding, rail renewal, etc.).

A wide set of planning rules are available to process data related to:

  • Track components condition (e.g. fastening, sleepers, etc.)
  • Ultrasonically detected Rail failures
  • Rail wear, corrugation and other rail surface defects (e.g. headcheck)
  • Rail and fastening corrosion
  • Wheel-rail interaction forces
  • Axle-Box Accelerations
