July 31, 2017 – The expert panel of DITECFER Technological Committee selected MERMEC "Railway Network Asset Inventory" as the winning solution of the "Leaders in Railway Innovation" contest 2017.
MERMEC solution gained the highest score based on several indicators including degree of innovation with respect to the state of the art, the economic benefit generated for customers, competitive advantage generated for the candidate firm, potential for exploitation in terms of development opportunities, international markets, etc.
MERMEC "Railway Network Asset Inventory" has been developed to improve the management and maintenance of railway infrastructure enabling advanced digitalization of track, turnouts, horizontal and vertical signals, level crossings, stations, walls, catenary..., and any other objects within 30m from the track center. Its greatest innovation lies in the acquisition method (aerial and terrestrial) and image processing of railway assets, which is capable of providing a complete, accurate and credible three-dimensional physical description. The end result is the identification and geo-referencing of each object in the railway infrastructure, useful for the purposes of ordinary management - that is, - for post-earthquake measurements, flood inspections, tunnel fractures and buildings, etc. The benefits for the infrastructure manager are multiple: improvement of the conditions of the entire infrastructure, reduction of maintenance costs and intervention times, integration and correlation data, and - last but not least - better passenger service thanks to the increased reliability of the line.
As contest winner, MER MEC becomes finalist to the "ERCI Innovation Awards 2017" that awards the most innovative companies in the rail sector belonging to ERCI meta cluster. ERCI represents companies providing products, systems, technologies in 10 EU countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain , Italy, Poland, Spain and Sweden.
