W•INSPECT is able to automatically inspect wheel sets using high definition cameras and ad-hoc illuminating system. Defects on the running surface of the wheels, such as shelling, spalling, flat spots, etc are detected and analyzed by the vision system while the train passes on it.
W•INSPECT vision acquires the full tread of the wheel during its rolling and automatically analyzes the vision data looking for defects on the wheel/tread (e.g. shelling, spalling, flat spots, etc.).

The wheel inspection systems using ultrasonic technology seeks out flaws and cracks by means of the propagation of Rayleigh ultrasonic waves produced electromagnetically on the rolling surface.
The Rayleigh waves propagation through the surface defects determines the development of reflected waves that are automatically identified by the signal acquisition and processing software.
The inspection system needs no coupling medium and its performance is independent of the surface conditions of the wheel, allowing proper operation even with rough or dirty surfaces.
